I am a relatively young man, being in my early thirties, with a job that pays me an "active salary" which i think is enough to modestly take care of me and a wife.
However, I have been greatly discouraged by the thought of getting married. I had a discussion with a recently married friend of mine the other day just to get a feel of how much he spent during his wedding. He gave me a conservative estimate of N3 million naira covering food, drinks, hall, decor, inlaw's demands etc.
Now, N3 million is not beans and with the current recession and daily increment in the price of goods and commodities, the estimates would have assuredly risen above that. I don't have that kind of money and it would take me a veeeeery looooong time to save for it plus I am not getting any younger.
Another frustrating fact is that after all the savings, I am pretty sure I will not have N1 change left from the monies spent at the wedding.
Are there any easier ways of getting married apart from a shotgun wedding? (Shotgun not really my style)
Would it be appropriate to discuss with my in-laws to just give whatever contributions they have to make for the wedding ceremony to us while we settle all basic/necessary requirements so that we can have seed money to begin our marriage and build from there?
Married people, half-married people, abeg make una come shook mouth o.
