We are all aware of the number of unemployed individuals the National Youth Service Corps pump into the labour market yearly. The number of unemployed persons is greater than that of employed persons. Youths are aimlessly walking about in search of job vacancies. U can imagine a first class student of chemical engineering working as a sales boy in a supermarket just to make ends meet. Appalling isn’t it?. The knowledge of this young boy would have been useful in the oil sector but those in charge of job recruitment would prefer to employ their family members with little or no job qualification and experience. Most Youths as a result of this resort to kidnapping, armed robbery, internet fraud and even ritual activities just to survive. Thus the question, “what is the government doing about unavailability of jobs?”. One would expect massive increase in industrialization so as to suck up people in the labour market but that is not the case. Talented and intelligent Nigerians write scholarship exams frequently so as to exit this “hell hole” called Nigeria which is a blessed country with cursed leaders. The time to think of the step to take so as to be of use to oneself and the society isn’t after passing out of service but rather before deciding on the choice of course to study. May God heal our land and bless us all. Amen.
