Have you ever been in a situation involving brake failure before? how did you handle it?
The likelihood that you would ever encounter brake failure is quite low. However, the results of these failures are potentially deadly, so it’s worth learning how to handle them. And the best way to learn how to handle these situations is through a little fore knowledge.
First, get into the habit of checking your brakes every time you get behind the wheel. Brake testing only takes a few seconds to do and will become habit after a while. There are two quick checks that you can make:
Static Brake test: To do this, press the brake pedal when you get into the car and check if there is a resistance or if it feels soft. If it feels soft, or it easily pushes to the floor without any resistance, you probably got a fluid leak and should have that checked right away.
Rolling Brake test: is done by pressing gently on the pedal intermittently after starting the car while driving slowly. This will reassure you that your breaks are ok before embark fully on your journey.
Never ever postpone servicing your car no matter the excuse!
